Klein Bonaire
A Day at Klein Bonaire: Snorkeling and Secluded Beaches
One of our favorite day trips when staying on Bonaire is heading out to Klein Bonaire, a small, uninhabited island just off the coast. The word “Klein” means “small” in Dutch, and it fits perfectly—Klein Bonaire is a tiny, pristine island that sits like a little gem in the crook of Bonaire’s boomerang shape.
Getting to Klein Bonaire is part of the adventure. There are a few different water taxi services that will take you over, or you can rent a boat if you prefer a bit more flexibility. The trip itself takes about 20 minutes by boat, and before you know it, you’ll arrive at No Name Beach—a stretch of stunning white sand with crystal-clear waters lapping at the shore.
One of the things we always remind ourselves (and our guests) is to bring everything we’ll need for the day—food, drinks, and most importantly, snorkel gear! There’s nothing on the island, which is part of its charm, but it means you’ll need to be prepared. We love that Klein Bonaire is so untouched—there are no buildings, no restaurants, no facilities, just nature at its finest.
Once you’re on No Name Beach, the day is yours to spend as you like. We often start by heading straight into the water for a snorkel. The underwater life around Klein Bonaire is incredible, with fish everywhere you look. It’s easy to lose track of time just floating and observing the marine world. There’s so much to see, from colorful fish to the occasional turtle if you’re lucky!
After snorkeling, we’ll set up camp on the soft white sand and enjoy a picnic. It’s peaceful here, with only the sound of the waves and the sight of the endless blue sea. There are a few bins on the island, and every time we spot one, we can’t help but joke about what a dream job it would be to be the garbage collector on Klein Bonaire—imagine spending your days in such a paradise!
The simplicity of Klein Bonaire is what makes it special. No distractions, no crowds—just the sea, the sand, and the sky. It’s the perfect escape, and whenever we return to Bonaire, Klein Bonaire is always at the top of our list for a peaceful, nature-filled day.
